KINDRED SPIRIT
All of us can fondly remember the story of Charlotte’s Web, where the unlikely friendship of a spider and a pig unfold. Charlotte was a true friend to Wilbur, she knew of his fears, his dreams and she gave of herself to save him from his plight of ending up as Saran wrapped bacon for breakfast. She was a true friend “Proverbs 18:24, there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother”.
I recently enjoyed watching the movie Anne of Green Gables in which a young orphaned girl finds deep friendship; she coined the phrase “kindred spirit” to describe this friendship. Being a kindred spirit is to feel and think the same way as another person.
As Christian women, we are kindred spirits, for who can be closer to us in mind and attitude than someone who shares our love for Christ. We walk this earth together for the same purpose, to love and serve our Savior. We are called to lay down our life for one another. Though we may be as different on the outside as a spider and a cute little pig, we share the same beliefs, and worship the same God. We pray for one another, mentor one another, encouraging our friend when she is down trodden. We each have the Spirit dwelling within; we mirror each other in Christ. We are kindred spirits who will dwell forever in eternity with Christ.
“If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,
make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.” Philippians 2:1-2
