Class Descriptions
Physical Science

Fee: $35.00 per month, and $20.00 lab fee for the entire year
Course Description: This course is designed to be the last science course the student takes before high school biology. It discusses such topics as the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, weather, the structure of the earth, environmentalism, the physics of motion, Newton's Laws, gravity, and astrophysics. The author especially concentrates on the myths generated by the hysterical environmentalist movement. There are many hands-on experiments that will be performed.
This course has sixteen modules. Students will be tested after every module. Grades will be given for tests and lab reports.
America: Land I Love - Part II

Course Description: This course is an in-depth study of the most recent century of American history. Starting the study during the Civil War era, the students will take a look at how the foundation and basis of our nation began to waver. We will start our studies around 1865, the Civil War time period, walk through the Second Industrial Revolution, and follow into the early 20th century, while learning about World War I, The Great Depression, World War II, and the Cold War. The course will feature in-depth studies of our American history with a Biblical perpective while also looking at many roles of great men of God and their character. The students will take a deeper look at these significant times in history through an interactive approach while participating in hands-on activities and mini-assimilations exemplifying key time periods to help them better understand and relate to people of that time.
Chemistry

Fee: $40.00 per month, $20.00 supply fee for the entire year
Course Description: This class offers a broad overview of inorganic chemistry. The class covers topics related to the periodic table, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, balancing chemical equations, electrochemistry and more. Relevant labs are included. An emphasis is placed on the fact that God is the creator of all things, and remarkably shows Himself through the intricacies of the atom.
Biology

Course Description: This course provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology. Heavily emphasizing the vocabulary of biology, it provides the student with a strong background in the scientific method, the five-kingdom classification scheme, microscopy, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems. It also provdes a complete survey of the five kingdoms of creation.
This course has sixteen modules. Students will be tested after every module. Grades will be given for tests and lab reports.
Spanish I

Eligibility: High school students
Textbook/Workbook: Bienvenidos (Glencoe) The book is loaned to the student, for a $20 cash deposit fee that will be returned at the end of the course if book is returned in good condition.
Course Structure: Worksheets and written homework assignments will be given weekly that support material learned from each chapter and classroom instruction. Cultural readings/oral exercises will be done in the classroom to reinforce speaking/pronunciatin and expand vocabulary. Take-home tests will be given at the completion of each chapter. Grades will be provided quarterly, and are a combination of homework, class work, tests, and writing assignments.
Classes are limited to eight students, so that students have the opportunity to speak as much as possible. Since class only meets once/week, attendance is crucial. Speaking/reading/pronunciation skills are lost during an absence. To 'catch up' a student on missed instruction is not only difficult for the student, but also results in difficulties for the other students and teacher.
Spanish II

Eligibility: High school students, "C" or better in Spanish I, (teacher evaluation/approval required if Spanish I was not taken at New Hope)
Textbook/Materials: No textbook is required for this course. Teacher provides all instructional material and worksheets from a variety of books and sources. Teacher also loans to students the paperback, Easy Spanish Reader, by William T. Tardy. ($10 cash refundable deposit). A Spanish dictionary will be necessary to have for class.

TRake-home tests will be given in an effort to preserve class time for instruction. Grades will be provided quarterly and are a combination of homework (20%), class work (30%), reading (10%) and tests/writing assignments (40%).
