What is podcasting?
Podcasting is a method of publishing audio broadcasts via the internet. Users are able to subscribe to a feed that will automatically download updated files, usually mp3s, to the users computer. Podcasting does not require a iPod, or any other portable music player for that matter, it is called Podcasting simply because of the popularity of the iPod portable music player.
How does it work?
Podcasting works through a technology called RSS or really simple syndication. You first must install a RSS reader on your computer. This reader is used to subscribe to what is known as a RSS feed. Once subscribed to a feed the reader will check the internet periodically to see if the feed has been updated. Once the reader detects that the feed had been updated it downloads the new file to your computer. If you have an iPod, the file is automatically transfered to your iPod the next time you dock it with your computer. if you have another brand of music player you can move the files manually, or you can listen to the file right on you PC.
How do I sign up?
If you have iTunes installed simply click on the iTunes logo next to the podcast you are wanting to subscribe to. If you use another feed tool click on the RSS link. If you have any problems please contact us. |
