Nehemiah appears to be the story of the rebuilding of Jerusalem, but it also serves as a handbook for rebuilding ruined, distressed, desolate, broken down lives. No walled fortress can protect without strong walls and powerful gates. Looking first to the gates, Nehemiah determined the needs before beginning to rebuild; like the Holy Spirit will do in our lives with the ruined, burned and broken gates. Using the story behind the repair of the 3 gates (valley, refuge, fountain) we learn how to move ahead; to ignore the enemy’s threats, intimidation, and rumors, to live free in Christ.
