Question / Issue
Do Jews pray for dead people? If so, why and is there any biblical basis for this?

Answer / Solution

The Jewish tradition of praying for the dead is based on the Talmud, not the Bible. According to the Talmud the Jews are to pray for their dead loved ones so that those who have passed to the other world will have more joy and peace. The Jews believe that their prayers will help to bring greater reward and blessing to their departed loved ones.
