Question / Issue
How will you know God has placed the perfect guy in your life when neither you or the guy knows? I know this guy who fits the "my perfect husband" list, but I don't know how to react.

Answer / Solution

Time and prayer are the primary tools for answering your question.  The mere qualities of a perfect mate ARE NOT necessarily a sign from God that a particular person is “the perfect mate.”  Philippians 4:6-8 informs us that “the peace of God which surpasses our understanding will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” relative to the “prayers and supplications” we offer to Him.  In other words, this passage is the basis for “you’ll just know.”

If you can make a list of reasons why you “love” someone then you probably do not “love” them; instead, you just really admire or respect them or have a profound attraction to them personally.  True love simply must.  When it comes down to it, God does not have any good reasons in human terms to love humans, but He does anyway because His ways are higher than ours.  Love transcends logic.

Along the same lines, if you can form a list of reasons why and how this person is “the one,” then they probably are not “the one.”  Isaiah 55 declares that “God’s ways are not our ways…” and we should never lose sight of the fact that His plans DO NOT require our help, just our cooperation.

Use time and prayer and the Word of God to guide you.  If this becomes difficult to manage or understand, please do not hesitate to seek spiritual encouragement from the pastoral staff by contacting the church office during normal business hours.
