Question / Issue
I know a couple of women from another church recently had breast implants. Shouldn't we be happy with the bodies God gave us?

Answer / Solution

The Bible is silent on the particulars of this matter; however, it is reasonable to infer from Scripture that contentment can and should extend to all areas of life, whether physical or emotional.  As true in all of our decisions, it is the motivation behind our actions and intentions that are most important.  Concerning breast implantation, if the motivation is to fulfill some aspect of fantasy, then that motivation is clearly wrong; however, if the motivation is to repair that which was lost or damaged due to injury or disease, then there is nothing wrong with this.  The mere fact that most breast augmentations are for less than noble reasons does not preclude Christians from getting them.  In general, Calvary Community Church would not recommend this procedure for the reasons given above and due to the medical risks involved.  The actual need for this sort of procedure is extremely rare.

Medically speaking, there are significant risks with breast augmentation; namely, the type of implant.  Simply put, some implants are safer than others and no implant is perfectly safe.  Newer technologies have reduced the risk significantly, but nothing is perfect in medicine today.

More importantly, Grace is to permeate ALL of our actions and intentions.  Grace is never a license to “go ahead and do what you want anyway”, but is a license to love people as they are, in spite of their faults, and overlooking their bad choices.  Pray earnestly for these women that you know had breast implants.  Request from God the best and the right opportunity for you to challenge them on this issue.  A spirit of gentleness and an open door to the topic are your clue that it might be “the right time”; otherwise, just keep praying for them and let the Holy Spirit work it out in their lives.
