Can you tell me the correct intrepretation of 2 Corinthians 8:9 is it really talking about finances? Does God want people to be rich in money? How does Calvary teach about prosperity in the life of the Believer?
Answer / Solution
2 Cor 8:1-9 8:1 Now, brethren, we wish to make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia, 2 that in a great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their liberality. 3 For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability they gave of their own accord, 4 begging us with much entreaty for the favor of participation in the support of the saints, 5 and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God. 6 Consequently we urged NAS The context of this verse is giving not getting. Christ is our example. This verse suggests that we were poor before we met Jesus Christ and we were totally bankrupt. Now that we have trusted Him, we share in all of His riches! (Rom 8:17). How then can we refuse to give to others? He became poor to make us rich! Can we not follow His example, as did the Macedonian churches, who out of their deep poverty abounded in liberality? Note that out of their poverty they gave, not out of their abundance.
