Question / Issue
Is it okay to go to a secular nightclub and dance and fellowship with friends? Is it forbidden in the Bible?

Answer / Solution

There is no direct prohibition on dance and fellowship in the Bible; however, the Bible does direct the Christian to “be separate from the world while living in it.”  Going to a nightclub is not acceptable Christian behavior for the following reasons:

1.      Self-deception: you are tricking yourself by thinking that you and your friends can handle the various “attractions” present in a nightclub.  The “nightclub” lifestyle is sensual and carousing in its nature, and therefore clearly unbiblical.

2.      Others-deception: you are sending a message to the world that Christianity supports the sort of lifestyle that you’re living.  Does the music and activity of a night club have any redeeming value?  Does it honor God in any way?

3.      Christ-defamation: those who know that you are a Christian and know about or enjoy the nightclub lifestyle with you, see Jesus as a person who does not care about purity of mind and body.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What does the Holy Spirit think of your lifestyle?
  • Would you be proud to take Jesus Christ nightclub-ing with you this weekend?
