Question / Issue
Who has seen God?

Answer / Solution
Great question.  The Bible teaches that no one has seen God (the Father) who is Spirit (John 4:24) and cannot be seen.  The following references bear witness to that:

1 Timothy 1:17 - "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen."  NAS

1 Timothy 6:15-16 - "which He will bring about at the proper time-- He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords; 16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen."  NAS

Hebrews 11:27 - "By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen."  NAS

However God has revealed Himself to people throughout history through His Son Jesus;

Jacob saw Jesus:  Genesis 32:30 - "So Jacob named the place Peniel, for he said, "I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been preserved."  NAS

Isaiah saw Jesus:  John 12:41-42 - "These things Isaiah said, because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him."  NAS  When Isaiah saw the LORD (Yahweh), this verse is telling us that He really saw Jesus!  Jesus is God.  But Jesus is not God the Father, He is God, the Son, the second Person of the Trinity.

JESUS, God, the Son, came that we might be able to know God.  Jesus came as God in human flesh and revealed the Father to us:

John 1:18 -
"No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him."

To have seen and known Jesus was to have seen and known the Father, not in the Father's glory and invisiblity, but in a way that we could see and understand and not be blown away!

 John 14:8-9 -
"Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us." 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, 'Show us the Father'?"  NAS

1 John 5:19-21 - "And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life."
