Question / Issue
Is it wrong to put the offerings ammount on the income tax form under contributions or should we not put it in at all leaving it a blank?

Answer / Solution
It's not wrong or unspiritual to follow the guidelines of the government and accept the deduction that they offer. In Luke 20:25, Jesus said "render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." He did not say to give Caesar more than he asks.

The church carries on a lot of social relief work for the community in the form of financial assistance, providing food and shelter services as well as counseling and family crisis help. The government acknowledges this benefit and allows contributions to churches and other non profit charitable organizations to be deducted from our income for tax purposes. Christians are not doing anything morally or spiritually wrong when they report this deduction; it's good stewardship of the resources that God is entrusting to us.
