Can I pray for my Christian son and his Christian girlfriend and expect God to protect and bless them if they are living together?
Answer / Solution
Paul tells us in the New Testament to "pray without ceasing". We can have this communication with our Lord and count on the fact that He hears us. That being said, we can pray for those who are not following the commands of scripture. It states that we are to "abstain from all appearance of evil" - I Thess. 5:22 (KJV) The apostle John warns us, "Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil is not of God." If you have your son and his girlfriend living together, they can protest all they want that they are keeping themselves pure, but the fact remains that the perception from many will be that they are not. Temptation becomes strong, and when sin enters the relationship blessing can be replaced by discipline. I would recommend that along with praying, you should purchase Elisabeth Eliot's book "Passion and Purity" and invite them to read it. It will only strengthen their relationship and provide needed counsel during this time.
