Question / Issue
My mother is Jewish and she argues that it is difficult for one to believe what the Bible says because "someone" took out certain books. How can I respond to her?

Answer / Solution

The Old Testament books were compiled by the Jews and were part of the sacred cannon of Scripture hundreds of years before Christ.  The New Testament books were written and preserved by the early church.  Special meetings of the church were called (church councils) to officially ratify the books that were accepted as inspired.  This was necessary because spurious books were circulating that were not of apostolic origin.  Interestingly, nearly 100% of the New Testament we have can be found in the writings of the early church fathers.

The Bible is totally reliable and accurate in every way. It is a reliable source of both historical and scientific information. Beyond this the Bible is a reliable source of information about the best way to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. Most importantly, the Bible is a reliable source of information about God, His plan for human history, His purposes for our lives, and the path to personal peace with God. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that the Bible is "profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness". The Bible is God's revealed message to mankind.
