Question / Issue
What was it like when you first became a Christian? I have been a Christian since I was a child and I want to know what is going through your mind and heart before it happens, when it happens, and after it happens

Answer / Solution

Everyone has a different experience.  Many people, including Billy Graham, did not feel anything special at the point of salvation.  For others, it is euphoric, for others it is not.  There is no biblical mandate to have any particular kind of feeling when one gets saved.  The important thing is that your personal experience with Christ grows increasingly strong and rewarding as the “new life” presses on.  The formula for that is simple: spend regular, devoted, and significant amounts of time alone with God.  What you do when you’re alone with God and how long that you’re alone with God are up to you and God alone.

Psalm 131 gives the picture you need for growth.  Your time alone with God is going well if you can begin to see the view from His arms.  That view is His Son Jesus.  That may sound trivial, but it is more profound that can be uttered with words.  “Seeing” Jesus for all that He is something that can only be started on this side of eternity.  There is nothing academic about the view of Jesus Christ that we should aspire to; it can only be experienced through genuine humility and kingdom-seeking.  I’d love to give a definition of what this means, but that is impossible to do.  The only thing that can be done is walk that way.
