Know Jesus As Your Savior

To accept Jesus as your Savior, you must first understand and acknowledge what He has done for you.

From the beginning, God created humanity because He desired a relationship with us. He created a utopian world for us to live in and enjoy with Him forever. Once sin entered the world, we became forever tainted and unworthy of this eternal life in the perfect holiness of God.

But because God loves you so much, He sent His Son - God in human form - to die on the cross for your sins (the Bible refers to this as 'the crucifixion'). Three days later, He rose again to give you eternal life ('the resurrection'). Once you accept these things to be true and admit that Jesus died and rose again for you, then you will be forever sealed by God's salvation.

The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus is often referred to as 'The Good News' or 'The Gospel.' Here is an illustration using a white cross to symbolize Jesus' perfection and a red cross to symbolize our sinful nature.

White = His Perfection

Jesus is perfect and righteous (white as snow). He always did everything God wanted Him to do. At His trial the judge declared Him innocent saying, "I find no guilt in this man." (Luke 23:4) But Jesus was condemned to die.

Red = Our Sin

As humans, we have all done many wrong things and deserve to be punished. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard. (Romans 3:23) On your own, you will always be tainted by sin and not worthy of the glory of God.

Jesus Took Our Sin

On the cross, God took our sins and placed them on Jesus, and as a result, He died the death we deserve. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf... (2 Corinthians 5:21)

We Are Righteous

When we believe, we come "into" Jesus and God sees us as righteous, covered with Jesus' perfect life! He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

The Prayer

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved... (Romans 10:13)

God created every person with a need to be in a relationship with Him. Since our sins separate us from God, we have a void in our heart. All of us have tried to fill this void in many different ways; with money, prestige, possessions, power and even with people. However, none of these things will ever really satisfy us. The only thing that can completely fill this void is a relationship with God.

If you would like to accept Him as your Savior and receive Jesus into your heart, simply say this prayer with all sincerity:

Jesus, I know I am a sinner and that I need your forgiveness. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins, and that you were raised to life on the third day bringing eternal life. Forgive me of my sins and fill this void in my heart with your love. I want You to be the Savior and the Lord of my life. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Next Steps

Once you've accepted Jesus, you have sealed your salvation and you will spend eternity in Heaven with God. You have become justified (just-as-if-I'd never sinned). But justification is only the beginning of your spiritual journey. As you learn more about Jesus and His love for you, you'll grow in your desire to serve Him and share Him with others. We call this the process of 'sanctification.'

We've provided some next steps to help you along with the sanctification process. Each of these steps will help you grow in your relationship with Jesus.

A Believer's Baptism is an act of obedience symbolizing your faith in a crucified, buried and risen Savior. At CalvaryPHX, we believe in total immersion as an illustration of your death to your life before Christ, and the rising from the water as a symbol of your new life found in Him.

We host baptisms 3-4 times a year. To sign up for the next event, visit the event calendar.

Talk to God about your life; tell Him about everything that concerns you and the people you love. Don't worry about using complicated words or memorized phrases. Instead speak to Him in the same way you would speak to anyone.

The Bible tells us that there is even more power in prayer when more than one are praying. If you would like to submit a prayer request to our pastoral staff and our prayer teams, please click here.

Studying God's Word and being with God's people are instrumental in your spiritual growth. The Word of God is written so He can speak to you and guide you.
